    A student-written and -directed play about the inner workings of the adolescent psych ward. Starring mostly students, one alumna and one local actress, this piece is a starkly humorous and often heartbreaking look into the challenges of mental health care, and the problems of how we conceive "mental health" and "mental illness." Admission is free, but donations are being accepted on behalf of the Neighborhood Involvement Program, a non-profit community healthcare provider in Uptown. Requested donation is 3$; but even 50 cents from 150 guests could be hugely significant. Please give what you can, and enjoy. 

    Contains strong language and some disturbing material. Viewer discretion is advised; recommended viewing age is at least 13 with parental contextualizing. With those warnings in mind, all are welcome.

    Museum Legs is a collection of essays that places art museums at the intersection of creativity and public life.  It is a funny and engaging look at the history and politics of museums, in a way that invites people to think differently about art and creativity in their own lives.

  • Hip-Hop for Hope

    Hunger and Homeless month comes to an epic close with the Hip-hop for Hope performance event. Slam poets, spoken word artists, and dance crews from Macalester and the Twin Cities have all joined together in an effort to raise money for the children of the Family Place, and to raise awareness of youth homelessness. Performers include: Mac DJ Club, Bodacious, MacSlam, Battlecats, ConciouSpirit, Voice of Culture, Danving Dave, Khary Jackson and the national champion slam team Soap Boxing, and many more!

  • An Evening of Jazz with Geri Allen

    The Macalester Concert Choir and the Mac Jazz Big Band collaborate in a joint concert with the internationally known and award-winning jazz pianist, composer and arranger, Geri Allen. Allen will conduct several master classes and rehearsals; culminating in a final performance with both the choir and jazz band. featuring Igor Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms

    The Macalester Combined Choirs unite with the Festival Chorale (faculty, staff and community members) to sing Stravinsky's hauntingly impassioned Symphony of Psalms, featuring pianists Mark Mazullo, chair of the Music Department and professor, and piano proficiency coordinator Claudia Chen. In addition, the Macalester Concert Choir will perform selections by Brahms, Matthew Harris, a new composition by professor Carleton Macy, and Antonio Vivaldi's Magnificat with soprano soloist Rabihah Davis.
