Register to chat with Mac alumnus, former Mac English Department faculty member, and best-selling author Alex Lemon '01. Alex will talk about writing, editorial work, and teaching, so come with questions about working as a professional writer in many of its facets. Pizza will be served; register via Handshake.
Alex is in town for the Twin Cities Book Festival where he will "converse with Milkweed Editions editor Joey McGarvey about how he came to inhabit (and write) the strange place called Feverland." More information and registration for the Book Festival.
Alex’s most recent book is Feverland: A Memoir in Shards. He is the author of Happy: A Memoir (Scribner; a finalist for Best Book of Nonfiction by The Writer’s League of Texas) and four poetry collections: Mosquito, Hallelujah Blackout, Fancy Beasts and The Wish Book (a finalist for Best Poetry Collection by The Writer’s League of Texas). Or Beauty, a fifth poetry collection is forthcoming this spring from Milkweed Editions. His writing has appeared in Esquire, American Poetry Review, The Huffington Post, Ploughshares, Best American Poetry, Tin House, Kenyon Review, Gulf Coast, AGNI, New England Review, The Southern Review, Grist and jubilat, among others.
Among his awards are a 2005 Fellowship in Poetry from the NEA, a Jerome Foundation Fellowship and a 2006 Minnesota Arts Board Grant. He is an editor-at-large for Saturnalia Books, the poetry editor of descant, a Senior Prose Editor for Tupelo Quarterly and sits on the editorial board of TCU Press and the advisory board of The Southern Review. He lives in Ft. Worth, Texas, and teaches at TCU.
