Beyond Mac - Ira Martopullo - Class of 2012 - Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME)

4:30 PM  - 5:30 PM
Monday Sep 11, 2017
Olin-Rice Science Center 241

I graduated Mac in 2012 with a Biology major and worked in
biomedical labs for 3 years afterwards, at the University of
Minnesota, University of Washington, and the Fred
Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. I started an MPH in
epidemiology at the University of Washington in 2014 and
worked with the Kenya Research and Training Center
studying the effects of HIV infection on child development.
After graduating from the University of Washington I started
working as a researcher at IHME in the Global Burden of
Disease project, researching the burden of maternal disorders,
gynecological conditions, and infertility. I will be talking about
the transition from a basic science to global health research
and how to use the skills you learn in the lab in public and
global health.
