Chopin Society presents pianist Beatrice Rana

3:00 PM  - 5:00 PM
Sunday Apr 2, 2017
Mairs Concert Hall, Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center, Music Building

By the time Italian pianist Beatrice Rana turned 20, she had won not only First Prize and all the special prizes at the 2011 Montreal International Competition, but the Silver Medal and Audience Prize at the 2013 Van Cliburn Competition as well. Her exhilarating and straight-from-the-heart music-making soon put her in high-demand everywhere for major concert series and festivals. The live recording on Harmonia Mundi of her Cliburn performances was followed by an outstanding disc of Scriabin and Chopin on the ATMA Classique label. Now signed with Warner Classics, her debut CD for them of Prokofiev 2 and Tchaikovsky 1 concertos with the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, was named BBC Music Magazine’s Recording of the Month for February 2016. Beatrice is currently part of the BBC’s two-year New Generation Artists program, providing her a wide range of performance opportunities in the UK, and also enjoys a Borletto-Buitoni Trust Fellowship for 2016. In addition, she was recently honored by the Italian Association of Critics with the ‘Premio Abbiati’ as the best soloist of 2015. In the spring of 2016, she traveled throughout Europe with the Quatuor Modigliani, made her Vienna Konzerthaus debut, and toured South America with the orchestra on her concerto CD. Born into a musical family (both parents are professional pianists and her sister a cellist), Beatrice lives in Rome and continues to study with Benedetto Lupo, her longtime mentor. She previously attended the Hochschule für Musik in Hannover, Germany, where she studied with Arie Vardi.

“Beatrice Rana possesses an old soul that belies her 20 years, and more than a touch of genius.”
