Sunday Nov 9, 2014
Mairs Concert Hall, Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center, Music Building

A native of Novosibirsk in central Russia, Pavel Kolesnikov began learning both piano and violin at the age of six at the Moscow State Conservatory. Today his studies continue at the Royal College of Music in London with Sergey Dorensky, at London’s Royal College of Music with Norma Fisher and at Brussels’ Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel with Maria João Pires. At the age of 17, Pavel won First Prize at the Gilels International Piano Competition in Odessa, and in 2012 he received a Jury Discretionary Award at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. 2012 was also the year he became Prize Laureate (Winner) of the Honens International Piano Competition in Calgary, Canada, a distinction that came with artistic and career development valued at a half million dollars, the largest competition award of its kind. Pavel’s recent Wigmore Hall recital debut drew a rare five-starred review.
