#Sochi Problems: Rehabilitating Russia from the perpetual "FAIL blog" role with Cassandra Hartblay, class of '06, PhD candidate, Department of Anthropology, UNC-Chapel Hill

Layperson Russia-watching amongst the American public reached an unusual crescendo with the 2014 Winter Olympics. The Twittersphere and the news cycle were flush with sound bite "fails" on the part of the Russians: two toilets to a stall, a ring that didn't open. But hot on the heels of all this FAIL-blogging about Russia came an exertion of military force in Crimea. Has the American perspective on Russia been blinded by the glee of always casting Russia in the FAIL blog role? Pizza lunch will be provided. Hosted by Macalester German & Russian Studies
