Alice McDermott reads from her new novel "Someone"--7:00pm, tonight, in the Weyerhaeuser Chapel at Macalester College--sponsored by Common Good Books (38 S Snelling Ave, St Paul; 651/225-8989; www.commongoodbooks.com).
The ordinary life of an ordinary woman is the subject of Someone, Alice McDermott’s extraordinary return, seven years after the the National Book Award-winning After This. Scattered recollections--of childhood, adolescence, motherhood, old age--come together in this transformative narrative, stitched into a vibrant whole by McDermott’s deft, lyrical voice.
Alice McDermott is the author of six previous novels, including After This, That Night, Child of My Heart, Charming Billy (winner of the 1998 National Book Award), and At Weddings and Wakes. That Night, At Weddings and Wakes, and After This were all finalists for the Pulitzer Prize.
