A former student of Pierre Sancan at the Paris Conservatoire, French pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet was invited by Sir George Solti to give his debut with the Orchestre de Paris in 1995 and is widely considered as the Maestro’s last discovery. Today he concertizes widely throughout Europe, the US, and Asia and regularly appears with many top conductors, including Gergiev, Ashkenazy, and Boulez. An exclusive recording artist for Chandos, he received a Gramophone Award in 2011 for his recordings of Debussy and Ravel with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. The first volume of his ongoing project to record all of Haydn’s Sonatas received the prestigious ‘Choc de l'annee’ award in 2010, while his 5-disc set of Debussy’s Complete Works for Solo Piano achieved multiple honors, including the BBC Music Magazine Award for Volume 3 and a Gramophone Award for Volume 4. Bavouzet is known for his clear, penetrating sound and a musical approach that balances ardor and restraint. In 2012 he was named Artist of the Year by the International Classical Music Awards.
