Chopin Society presents pianist Behzod Abduraimov
Starts 3:00 PM
Sunday Nov 10, 2013
Mairs Concert Hall, Music Building
Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center
When he became Grand Prize winner of the London Competition in 2009 at the age of 18, Behzod Abduraimov was described by the London Telegraph as “a gift from God” who "delivered about the most enthralling roller-coaster ride of a Prokofiev third concerto imaginable.” The meteoric rise of the young Uzbek continues to this day, solidifying his reputation as an unusually mature artist who thrills audiences wherever he goes. In 2012-13 he earned raves for his recital debut at Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and, among other things, completed recital tours of Germany and Spain, played concertos with the Indianapolis Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and saw the release of his dazzling debut disc for Decca. The CD, which includes works of Prokofiev, Liszt, and Ravel, has received outstanding reviews and awards, including the Choc de Classica and Diapason Découverte. The native of Tashkent made his debut at age 8 with the Uzbek State Symphony Orchestra. His early training was with Tamara Popovich at the Uspensky State Central Lyceum. He currently studies with compatriot Stanislav Ioudenitch at the International Center for Music at Park University in Kansas City.
