"Miss Bala" Film Screening

Starts 6:30 PM

Davis Court, Markim Hall

Women's History Month is drawing to an end, so let's make the week after Spring Break count! Please join us for a viewing and discussion of the powerful Mexican film "Miss Bala" (read: Miss Bullet). Loosely based on a true story of a former Miss Hispanic America, Laura Zúñiga, the gritty thriller was released at the 2011 Cannes Festival. A young aspiring beauty queen finds her dream turned against her when she unwillingly becomes entangled in the drug war.

The Hispanic Studies Department's own Alicia Muñoz, an expert in representations of women's violence and women's participation in drug trafficking, will contextualize the film, describe her research and answer any questions!
