Off World Film Screening and Panel with Director Mateo Guez

Starts 6:30 PM
Tuesday Apr 2, 2013
John B. Davis Lecture Hall (JBD), Ruth Stricker Dayton Campus Center

Join us for the screening of Off World, an ethereal, occasionally disturbing portrait of Lucky, a young adoptee from Toronto, whose life is utterly transformed as he journeys to Smokey Mountain, his birthplace and one of the Philippine's most notorious slums. Shot on location in the vast urban garbage city, the film is an intimate portrait of both the place, and the people who inhabit it. By turns poetic and atmospheric, Off World is a tribute to the tenacity of human spirit and a document of the singular beauty that can be found in even the most chaotic of circumstances – If one can only manage view it from just the right angle.

We will be hosting a post-screening discussion with Off World Director Mateo Guez and Filipina Activist and Curator Marlina Gonzalez.
