Liberty Plaza is a Section 8 housing development owned by the Twin Cities Housing Development in the Summit-University neighborhood. Our organization is looking for students to help us design and lead an after-school program for residents of the property in grades 9-12, beginning in summer 2013/fall 2013. The program will run from 3:30-6:00pm Tuesdays and Thursdays. We are looking to create a sustainable program by seeking students who are able to commit to one (academic) year of leadership. Students will work with Liberty Plaza staff and Americorps VISTAs to create the curriculum. We intend to focus the program on youth mentorship (including academic assistance), service learning, and post-secondary exploration. This is an amazing opportunity for students to connect to youth near the Macalester community and gain experience in leadership.
