One in seven people goes to bed hungry every night. Not because there isn’t enough food, but because of deep imbalances in access to resources like fertile land and water. Few experiences bring to life the inequalities in our world more powerfully than an Oxfam America Hunger Banquet. You will experience firsthand the disproportionate distribution of food around the world, being randomly assigned to a high-, middle-, or low-income group and receiving a meal accordingly that is similar to what real people around the world receive on a daily basis depending on their income group. You will hear real stories from people impacted by hunger, famine, and poverty. Most importantly, we will have a conversation about why access to food, a basic need, is denied to so many and what can be done to rectify this disparity.
