Mac Alumnus Jane Zimmerman will come speak to Macalester about her work in the State Deparment, and the best way for Macalester students to some day work for the State Department. 

Bio:

As Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, Jane B. Zimmerman is responsible for South and Central Asia, the Western Hemisphere, and International Religious Freedom.

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Ms. Zimmerman was most recently the Director for the Office of Western European Affairs in the Bureau of European Affairs (2011-2012). From 2008-2011, she was detailed from the U.S. State Department to the U.S. Agency for International Development to serve as the Regional Director for the Western Hemisphere in the Office of the Director of Foreign Assistance. She has also served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia, Deputy Director for Western European Affairs, Senior Spain Country Officer, and Acting Director for Multilateral Coordination and External Affairs in the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration.
