Since the military coup in 2009, Honduras has been in a human rights crisis. The US was instrumental in legitimizing the Honduran administration that came to power after the coup. Meanwhile, the Honduran military and police, responsible for egregious human rights violations, have received millions from the United States in arms and training. Indigenous communities are among the most affected by these policies.
