Soprano Allison Charney and Pianist Mark Mazullo in Recital
Starts 3:00 PM
Sunday Mar 3, 2013
Mairs Concert Hall, Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center & Gallery
Allison Charney, soprano, and Mark Mazullo, piano will perform Zigeunerlieder (Gypsy Songs) of Antonin Dvorak, Beethoven's Piano Sonata in A-flat Major Opus 110, and Hector Berlioz's song cycle Les nuits d'été. Charney's operatic career began with her debut at the New York City Opera. She has earned a reputation for her “vocal agility, lush sound, and dramatic portrayals” of the lirico-spinto soprano roles in her wide-ranging repertoire. Mazullo appears frequently in solo, chamber, and concerto settings, performing concertos by Beethoven, Shostakovich, and Prokofiev with the Minnesota Philharmonic, the Civic Orchestra of Minneapolis, the St. Paul Civic Orchestra, and the Dubuque (Iowa) Symphony Orchestra. Mazullo is professor and chair of the Music Department at Macalester and the author of Shostakovich’s Preludes and Fugues: Contexts, Style, Performance (Yale University Press, 2010).
