Tan will work with a group of Macalester students and community members to identify appropriate local areas that could benefit from food and art, in which to install mobile gardens.

Tan's art practice seeks to find an immediate, direct and effective way of exploring issues related to the individual in society through which to collapse the categories of art and life into one. Tan's work as been shown in different venues, from New York to the Twin Cities, and he has been recognized for his artistic contribution to the community.
