In Sarah's Key, readers are led through the lives of two main characters, Julia and Sarah, and ultimately learn about the connection that exists between the two of them. Julia Jarmond is a journalist living in Paris with her husband in May 2002 and assigned to write an article about the Vel' d'Hiv' roundup. Sarah, a ten-year old living in Paris in 1942 is brutally arrested with her Jewish family by the French police. In an effort to keep him safe and hidden, Sarah locks her brother in a secret cupboard before being taken thinking that she will be able to return in a few hours. As Julia goes further into her investigation she discovers some long held family secrets kept by her in-laws that connect her to Sarah. This discovery drives her to learn more about the girl's ordeal and also forces her to begin questioning things in her own life.
The next book to be discussed is American Woman by Susan Choi (date and location TBD).
