Join fellow alumni on Thursday, March 8 to see Blue/Orange staring Mac alum Carl Lumbly ’73. Stay after the performance to meet Carl.

In this drama/comedy, a London psychiatric hospital is the backdrop for an enigmatic patient (Carl Lumbly) who claims to be the son of an African dictator — a story that becomes more and more unnervingly plausible as the play progresses. The clash in Blue/Orange is between two psychiatrists, Robert Smith, a senior doctor, and his protégé, Bruce Flaherty. The conflict arises when Christopher (Carl Lumbly), initially diagnosed with borderline personality disorder is believed to be more seriously ill, with schizophrenia. Dr. Flaherty wants him committed, but Dr. Smith opposes this course of action. It doesn't take long for Christopher's interests to become less of a focus for his caretakers and more of a weapon with which they take turns attacking each other.
