Join Portland-area alumni for a special 6th Anniversary celebration of the Portland Mac Reads group. We will be discussing My Abandonment. The book is written by local author and Reed Professor Peter Rock who will be joining us for the discussion.

The discussion will be hosted by Amy Kirkman '89. If you plan to attend, please contact Amy at 503-771-1122 for directions.

Hear Peter Rock discuss the true story that inspired his book online here.

Inspired by a true story, My Abandonment, is the story of a 13-year-old girl and her father who live in Forest Park, an enormous nature preserve in Portland, Oregon. Aside from a weekly venture into town to buy groceries and a few other necessities, they live off the grid in an elaborate cave shelter. They wash in a nearby stream, use a makeshift septic system, tend a garden and even keep a library of sorts. All of this continues until a small mistake allows a jogger to discover their existence and forces their life in a different direction.

The next book to be discussed is Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. More details coming soon!
