2011 Alumni Spring Film Series, Part 4 of 5: Mother
- 9:30 PM

John B. Davis Lecture Hall (JBD), Ruth Stricker Dayton Campus Center
Film critic and Macalester alumnus Colin Covert '74, continues his review of the greatest films you've never heard of with the 2011 Alumni Spring Film Series "Hidden Gems and Surprises, Part 2." Plan to join him for some interesting films and great discussion! Here's a taste of Colin's thoughts on the fourth film in the series, Mother:
Admirable and rare is the filmmaker who is willing to try something new each time out. This definitely holds true for Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, who, after highly appealing monster movie The Host, returns with a strange but entirely appealing crime thriller (of sorts). The tale of an overbearing mother who will do anything to clear the name of her son (who has been accused of murder), it's an odd but captivating character study that goes to some weird places but never loses its confident stride. Lead actress Kim Hye-ja is breathtaking.
"Hidden Gems and Surprises, Part 2" happens 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, March 23-April 27 in the John B. Davis Auditorium in the Campus Center. The films for the series include: Winter's Bone (3/23), Son of Rambow (3/30), The Lookout (4/6), Mother (4/20), King of Kong (4/27).
The registration fee for the film series is $25 per person for the entire series or $5 per person for each film. Register online here.
