2011 Alumni Spring Film Series, Part 2 of 5: Son of Rambow
- 9:30 PM
Wednesday Mar 30, 2011
John B. Davis Lecture Hall (JBD), Ruth Stricker Dayton Campus Center
Film critic and Macalester alumnus Colin Covert '74, continues his review of the greatest films you've never heard of with the 2011 Alumni Spring Film Series "Hidden Gems and Surprises, Part 2." Plan to join him for some interesting films and great discussion! Here's a preview of Colin's thoughts on the second film of the series, Son of Rambow:
There was another Rambo movie in 2008, but you can keep your Sylvester Stallone gorefest; we'll take this British indie about a sheltered kid who, after being captivated by First Blood (the first movie he's ever seen), films a remake with his new friend, the class bully. It's a sweet, funny, charming testament to friendship, the magic of moviemaking and even Rambo himself ... and certainly our only opportunity ever to use "charming" and "Rambo" in the same sentence.
"Hidden Gems and Surprises, Part 2" happens 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, March 23-April 27 in the John B. Davis Auditorium in the Campus Center. The films for the series include: Winter's Bone (3/23), Son of Rambow (3/30), The Lookout (4/6), Mother (4/20), King of Kong (4/27).
The registration fee for the film series is $25 per person for the entire series or $5 per person for each film. Register online here.
