John B. Davis Lecture Hall (JBD), Ruth Stricker Dayton Campus Center
Join us for the 2010 Fall Alumni Film Series named "Global Justice" happening 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Sept. 22-Nov. 10. Our sixth film is the academy award winning Midnight Express. Billy Hayes, an American tourist visiting Turkey, makes the unfortunate decision to try to smuggle hashish out of the country, is caught by customs and given an overly harsh 30-year prison sentence by Turkish officials. Although his girlfriend and father are doing everything they can to get him released, Hayes soon realizes escape is the only option after witnessing the violence and deplorable conditions of the prison, and begins to make plans for his escape.
Global Justice participants will see eight films selected by Star Tribune critic Colin Covert '74 that take an international look at how films depict justice in various cultures, environments, and political frameworks. The films for the series include: The Bicycle Thief (9/22), The Verdict (9/29), Incident at Oglala (10/6), The Castle (10/13), In the Name of the Father (10/20), Midnight Express (10/27), Crimes and Misdemeanors (11/3), The Postman Always Rings Twice (11/10).
The registration fee for the film series is $40 per person for the entire series or $5 per person for each film. Register online here.
